Art Program

The Montessori environment contains an ever changing selection of creative activities. Lessons on collage, cutting, gluing, painting, hole punching, markers, pencils, crayons, and play dough are a constant part of the everyday classroom setting.  The real fun comes with the different art activities and projects that go along with each area of study such as African masks, impressionist painting, and tie-dye flowers, to name a few. We also cover different art eras and artists each month. Fine motor skill practice, color work, and imagination all come into play in the art area. In addition to our regular curriculum we have a separate art class Monday-Thursday. Each child attends a 45-minute session; a class consists of 6-8 children and covers five areas of art: drawing, painting, clay, printmaking and sculpture. LMM also teaches the primary elements of art and composition including line, shape and color.  New art projects are introduced weekly to keep the children interested, thinking creatively and having fun!   Occasionally we work on large group projects, allowing the children to experience working together.

Our emphasis is always on the process and supporting the development of creativity in a joyful and non-judgmental atmosphere.
