“We cannot know the consequences of suppressing a child's spontaneity when he is just beginning to be active. We may even suffocate life itself. That humanity which is revealed in all its intellectual splendor during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life.” -- Dr. Maria Montessori
At Little Miners, all children are welcome. We accept children ages 2½ through 6 years old. Exceptions will be considered on an individual basis. There are also exceptions made for children wanting to stay one more year for first grade, children who apply for this extra year must be already enrolled and have completed at least 2 years with Little Miners Montessori.
Children must be completely toilet trained prior to enrollment and must be physically and emotionally able to participate in the program. Children who are 2 ½ years old must be turning 3 by January of the following year.
Little Miners requests that each parent set up a school visit. Parents will observe a classroom in session and have an informational tour of the entire program. These visits will include time to speak with the Director of the school.
A completed interest form is required to initiate the registration process or to gain a spot on the wait list. Once accepted, a completed enrollment form and a nonrefundable registration fee are required before students attend classes.
Little Miners Montessori School seeks students who will thrive in our mixed-aged environment that offers freedom of choice within limits and supports the development of autonomy, intellectual curiosity, and personal and social responsibility. Families are expected to work with the school in a spirit of collaboration that will support their child and the school’s mission.
